Breaking personal bests
Been fishing for about four years now......my biggest carp was 13lb for
three years...........a month ago it went up with a 16 3/4lb ghost carp.......then on monday i caught a 21 1/2lb mirror....couldn't believe it and thought i'll probably never catch one bigger than that or at least not for a long time anyway.......then went out yesterday and caught one 23lb in 3 hours fishing......so now i reckon i'll probably blank for the rest of the year but wondered if many people had similar experiences with regard to personal best fish(any species) coming along like buses.....i've heard it happens a lot :) |

It's usually a sign of growing experience, often coupled with a change of
water. I've had a similar path until a couple of years ago when I levelled off. Time for a rethink on water and approach I think ;-) "wb¿dw" wrote in message ... Congrats PB's are great but even when they level out you can have sub cats
ie, pb ghostie, pb mirror, common etc. As previously said you can only catch whats there so a switch in venues often brings a batch of PB's with it. Hairless Inc,, |

Yes, I agree with the sentiments that this often reflects visiting more
venues and growing experience. I went to The Riddings near Tamworth on Friday and had two runs which I am convinced were from fish well over 20lbs. Unfortunately I was fishing for the tench so was using only 4lb line. The first fish was on for about two minutes and hadn't finished its initial run when the line gave out between the float and the rod tip (even though I was letting the fish have its head and allowing the clutch to slip). The second threw the hook after about a minute. As Arnie said: "I will be back" - but next time will use 6lb or even 8lb breaking strain. Ah, experience - what an experience! As it was I had to settle for a 6lb 8oz Mirror and several others over 3lbs 8oz, but on light tackle they sure gave a great scrap. However, with fish in there over 30lbs I really should have known better ( and ready The Riddings pages on our website with a little more care!). Good luck Peter C In message , writes Congrats PB's are great but even when they level out you can have sub cats ie, pb ghostie, pb mirror, common etc. As previously said you can only catch whats there so a switch in venues often brings a batch of PB's with it.
