Checking licenses and catch sizes at Mornington (Vic) Peir Sunday
Night...going down to the last 5 mil on the sizes too. Not much on the bite... a few rays to take the tackle... small pinkies and flathead on dusk, but nothing legal. Anyone had any luck around the Frankston - Mornington (Vic) area? Chris. |

Well isn't it nice to hear that the inspectors do actually do their job
occasionally. With all the money going to the government for licences you would think that this would be normal instead of a strange and rare happening. |

I agree, but to be fair, Victoria has a hell of a lot of coastline and I
don't think our $20 per inspector goes along way (after all, that's surely between half and one hours employment per fisherman - clubs that have 50 members would pay for a weeks worth ...) I'm not saying licence fees should increase, but certainly they should (and probably are) going after the real problem people - you know, people who rip down trees to bring nets on shore. It happens. Allot of coastline? What planet are you from? 10 years ago when I was living
in north Queensland it didn't matter how remote you went fishing you had a 50% chance of being checked by fishos. The Queensland Coastline is about 5000 kms long probably 4 or 5 times that of Victoria and we did not have to pay for licences to have that sort of protection for our resources. When the Victorian Government want to get real about it instead of raising revenue then I will be happy to pay for my licence |

It seems that there is a little movement in Victoria recently as I was
checked (and cleared) for the first time a few weeks ago too. Strangely my response to the approach was quite different to my response to a Qld fisho approach. I almost invited them on board for a cuppa because I was so pleased to see them at work. Is that weird or what? |

Is that weird or what? Nope! It's a sign you know what your doing, and abide by the laws! As I said, maybe they are starting to wake up... Regards Lindsay -- Scrap the 00 to post direct.
