Do fish feel pain? This article says "no"
 

Read this in the paper yesterday. No sources were cited:
"The National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame reports on research that
proves that fish do not feel pain. The jumping and pulling that fish do when
hooked is a response to a loss of free movement, not pain. Awareness of pain
comes from the cerebral cortex of the brain, and fish do not have it."

Let me put and hook in your lip,, I promise you would follow me around
like a bull with a ring in his nose, or a horse with a bit in his mouth

You would not pull against that pain, and make it worst, unless your
intelligence told you it was better to hurt, and get free,, none of the
lower mammals do this, even in a leg trap they wait until the limb goes
numb, before chewing their foot off

Seems people like yourself want to completely ignore "cerebral cortex".
As stated fish have none and humans do. The pain that fish do feel is
in no way related to the way we as humans feel pain. What they actually
feel is stress level change that is related to pain but in no way a
hurting pain as we know and feel it. so no, fish do not feel pain as we
know it. You do understand also that a fish is not a mammal don't you?

I don't want to put words (or anything else) in Rodney's mouth, but I think
he is on the same side of the fence as you. After re-reading his reply
several times, I believe he is saying.... Even the lowest mammals feel pain.
As proof of this, they don't fight against something which causes them even
more pain. Fish, on the other hand, will fight as hard as they can to
escape. This behavior implies that they must not feel pain.

I read Rodney to say that fish feel pain the same way we would if a hook
was stuck in our mouth. This is not the actual fact. What fish feel is
a change in stress level in which the function in their world. When the
weather changes they feel stress and adjust. When it is to hot they
feel stress and adjust. When they are caught on a hook they feel stress
and the natural instinct to survive and try to adjust. They simply do
not feel pain in a "it hurts" manner that we do. Truth is even mammals
themselves have a unique ability to ignore pain that we would go crazy
over and in some animals their system actually shuts down during the
dying process feeling little to no pain. Mother nature has masterfully
given the lower creatures something that we humans do not have. At
least this is how it works in everything I have read and come to

Sorry for not making it clearer,, I was trying to explain that fish
"don't" feel pain, the best way I thought was to show other life forms
reaction to pain, compared to a fish's opposite reaction

Then Uncle Dave was correct and I misunderstood what you said. A
section in the link I provides was very interesting in the area that
when the cerebral cortex is removed from humans they also do not feel pain.
