Gyrodactylus salaris

Going through a stack of New Scientist mags early this morning, I came
across an article on the Salmon crisis in Norway: they may have to
sterilise 23 more of their parasite-infested rivers with rotenone--a
poison that kills Gyrodactylus salaris, along with everything else.
(New Scientist 28 Feb 2004).

Surfing around I found that the parasite could live in the damp felt
soles of wading boots.

When anyone enters NZ you'll find any wading boots are taken away and
disinfected....

Makes sense though plenty bitch about it.

I hope they do it on the way out as well. You *******s can have
your ****ing snails back. We certainly don't want, or need, any
more around here! G

Nice to see you back around here, Clark. Hope the season was a
successful one. You ever going to drag your sorry ass up this way?

I think maybe our customs folk could teach your custom folk.. but it looks
like the horse has bolted with the snails... as best I know I still haven't
ever seen one, but it sounds bloody awful what they are doing up there.

Nope, I wont get up there this year. I had intended to, but this marriage
thing is apparently a priority and I think the expression was something
along the lines of staying there if I bothered at all.... seriously, one of
the companies I do some work for wanted me to go to the Fly tackle dealers
show in Denver in September. But as my luck would have it... the same week
as my wedding. Personally I suggested while it was possible to move the
wedding it wasn't possible to move the fly show.... first time I've ever
been physically threatened like that :).

I'll get there Warren, if for no other reason than to hang out with great
company in the west. riding in pick up trucks. listening to Bosephus.
drinking and fishing......

Hell what more inticement could a man want, unless you are going to tell me
Tiffany Amber Theissen fishes too?

I can't argue with that.... The sad thing is that New Zealand mud
snails are just the tip of the ice burg. :-(

Well, I went the divorce route myself...... G

I look forward to the day you are able to. You always have a place
to stay, access to a boat and an able rower when you get out my way.
