Joys and Disappointments

As the fishing season continues in central Ohio, I reflect on the joys and
disappointments. Each year I buy some new items including a rod and reel and
new lures that I learn about on the internet and this great news group. I
wonder.what are you most satisfied with and what is your biggest
disappointment?

I will start by saying that I am most satisfied with the results using
Senkos and my biggest disappointment is the Pfluger President reel that I
purchased. I have used a Curado for several years and this Pfluger is no
comparison.

The two most satisfying gear decisions I've made in recent years have been
my MinnKota Co-Pilot remote control for the trolling motor and the drop
shot rod Steve Huber built me.

Disappointments? Glass Husky Jerks. I've yet to catch a fish on one,
despite having enjoyed my most productive jerkbait season in more than 20
years.

It's amazing to me that you would mention Senkos and Pflueger reels because
those are exactly my choices as well. The only difference is that I'm very
pleased with my President reel and have been extremely disappointed in
Senkos as I have yet to catch a fish on one. I'll also have to toss a drop
shot rig into the ring as a major disappointment as well.

To each his (or her) own, I suppose!

That is interesting. The problem that I have with the President is that the
centrifical brakes do not stay in place when locked down...after several
casts at least one comes up. The first several times I fished the Senko, I
got very few hits and then I didn't set the hook. I went to a 2/0-4/0 circle
hook rigged wacky style and fished r e a l slow on the bottom moving it
12-18 inches at a time...this works for me and have caught fish each
evening.

The new Stradic 2500 spinning reel and the new model 6 1/2 ft Compre medium
extra fast tip rod I purchased, would be the most satisfying. Not catching a
single Bass at my local club outing last weekend (along with 14 others not
catching) is the biggest disappointment so far. The winning bass was only 16
inches. Bad cold front moved through the night before. The club never had
such a skunking. Weather not cooperating this year. Some fish were still
spawning the last week of June.

My biggest joy(s) would be my Nitro 700, and that drop-shot rod Steve Huber
made. The boat suits my needs perfectly and the only thing that I'm planning
on changing on it is the trolling motor. The rod is sweet! and useful for
other things than drop-shotting. My new All Pro Rod will probably make this
list if I ever get to actually catch a fish with it.

Disappointments: Senkos, Carolina-Rigging, and Power Pro. Maybe I need to
give the Senkos another chance, but so far I have skunked with these.
C-rigging is just something I need to practive more, and Power Pro just
doesn't cut it for me.
