I have a GC III on my nine and I like it. Smooth reel and a nice drag.
I haven't tested it on a fish large enough that I needed to protect an
8# leader. I am optimistic, though.

The only downside I've seen is the reel foot. If you drop the reel, it
invariably lands on the reel foot, which bends, even in a reel case.
The foot is very soft aluminum, so trying to bend it back results in a
mess. Usually, it bends near the lake, rather than near the tool box.

I tried to order a replacement from BPS, but they had no new ones. I
bought a used one for $0.53, with shipping another $5.00. That's how it
goes.

Buy the reel, buy a spare foot and keep your Leatherman handy.
