Most guys in my "neighborhood" use rubber boots from the local wally world.
They're cheap and readily available. Whatever you do, don't let anyone talk
you into anything with a zipper. Nor do you want a short boot; water does
run uphill and will sneak up your pants leg into a short boot. For extremely
cold rainy days I wear a pair of insulated waders instead of the rain pants.
