Interesting they you took a fish on the C-D-C and not the suspender as
they are basically the same idea.

Without seeing the c-d-c buzzer I wouldnt know but I might suggest that
a bigger bunch of c-d-c might do the trick.

I like to tie my buzzers very lightly dressed on a #12 sedge hook. The
bend in the hook gives a very "natural" appearance to the fly.

I think the sunken buzzer combo fished static is brilliant and seems you
did well using that method.
