Is it possible to feel the notch with a finger nail?

Are you cutting the biots from the stalk thus leaving the notch behind
on the quill?

I think it would be possible to work out the biot 'sides' if you knew the
side of the bird the original feather quill came from. Finding the notch
might be easier unless you have the skin.
