Mike...

You mention the "competitive flyfishing" as part of the television program.
I watched it once when they were covering the "competition" and was really
turned off by it. I'm not a fanatic about things dealing with flyfishing
although I've been flyfishing for over fifty years. I'm not sure what
turned me off. I think it was the fact that flyfishing has always been an
escape for me from the "real world" that I live in...a world that is ripe
with competition of one kind or another. If I was going to guess, I suppose
that was the biggest problem I had with it. Secondly, I've always felt that
flyfishers should focus on the experience and not how many fish they catch
or how big they are. I remember watching a commercial on television where
it shows a flyfisher on the river who has his cell phone (or pager?) with
him. He's paged and subsequently leaves the river to make his "important
phone call". The product being sold was the phone or pager...and its
ability to reach you anywhere. I cringed when I saw that commercial....and
for reasons similar to those that caused me to react to the "competitive
flyfishing".
