Does anyone know where are the best places to fish for springer
(kings)in Washington state? I would like to go somewhere and fish on
the river/lake bank as I don't have access to a boat. I like drift
fishing but I am open to any suggestions that would allow me to bring
home my trophy
Thanks
I'm from Michigan, but we have Kings (Chinook) here. They don't start
running the river from deep water until late August; with the main runs
beginning mid-late Sept. They seem to spawn by water temp, so early foul
weather may make them start early.
Most of the fish taken in summer are by trolling lures and with downriggers.
They do seem to school heavily off the river mouths in August, with the
occasional fish wandering up river. A good place to find early fish is near
the river mouth in open water; they will run up and down the shoreline
following drop off contours. I like a sandy bottom with a drop of from about
8-14 feet deep. Brown trout move shallow as do small lake trout.
Occasional walleye are taken, mostly at night. Pike will congregate in
weedy bays where bait disturbed by the large numbers of salmon tend to move.
