I fish for river smallies and I've been using 30 pound Power Pro and start
off with about six feet of 14 pound Segar fluorocarbon tied on as a leader.
I have had very little trouble with this setup. Make the union with a double
uni-knot. This knot has never failed. I like using a leader because it's
easy to tie different knots with mono. I tie loop knots often and it's easy
with mono.I know where the line will break if I have to break off. ( the
mono breaks). I haven't noticed any loss of sensitivity by using a mono
leader . Although I do admit my clients put in more time with my spinning
outfits than the baitcasters. The improvement of feeling the bites and
landing more fish is why I am going to continue to spool up with PPro &
mono. BUT, some people have a hard time adjusting to using PPro . (must
loosen the drag & use a softer rod). I do keep a rod with mono for those
folks who have troubles .

Last summer I lost few senkos and spinner blade this way. The soft
plastics just tore off the hook and the spinner blade broke at the swivel.
So it wasn't the knot ... Oh, and yes, one Heddon Spook flew away, but it
was my fault because I tied it with uni loop. I use
Spiderwire "stealth" 20/6 and it seems it holds the regular palomar knot
just fine.

I thought my search for the "vonderline" was over. I put some Stren on

I usually cast a long way with a very strong "snap" of my wrist. It is
necessary here on the TX Gulf coast and beside, I like it! Yesterday, I
SNAPPED a spinnerbait right off of the line.
Over the years, I've lost more lures during casting with ANY superline
then
I ever lost with any mono. I know that mono gives me some stretch, so my
big
SNAP cast (when I get a backlash) doesn't always break off.
Am I the only guy with this complaint about Superlines? I'm using 30 lb
with
8 lb diameter. I usually use ten pound mono???
