Well the flyline is about done, and at one point belonged to my Grandfather,
well about 10 years ago so not worried about it too much. At least I am not
practicing on his old split bamboo rod.

If your street is anything but soft grass, you're going to ruin the fly
line. Find a nice grassy field to practice. After you think you've got it,
drop to your knees and try again. That'll give you a more real-feel for
casting as you're wading.
