In Michigan the boat has to be XX feet before a survey is required, and I
know the XX amount is longer than a bass boat.

I figured no problem when it came to getting my new bass boat insured. I
called my Allstate agent, gave them the info and they faxed me a binder.
A
couple days later the agent called me to tell me they were canceling my
policy because I didn't list my wife's details even though she doesn't
operate the boat. That would have been for about $770 per year.

We redid the policy and resubmitted it with my wife's info. Coverage was
then quoted at about $540. Cool deal.

A couple days later I received the official notice from Allstate saying
they
were canceling my original coverage. No big surprise except it listed two
reasons for canceling the new coverage. Not listing my wife's details,
and
they claimed the boat goes too fast. I called the agent and told him to
check on that. Sure enough he called me right back (a week later) and
told
me they were going to cancel it again.

Screw that. I went ahead and told him to cancel the second policy right
now
since I was still covered for a few more days on the binder from the
original cancelled policy.

Then I went shopping. Progressive was outrageous wanting over 1100
dollars
a year for coverage. A few others wanted me to submit a marine survey of
the craft before insuring it even though its a brand new boat. I don't
think so. Besides there aren't a lot of watercraft surveyors in Yuma
Arizona.

Finally I got a quote from United Marine Underwriters via their website
http://www.unitedmarine.net . They quoted me 588 with a 688 deductible.
Sounded like an odd number, but for the coverage it was perfect. I called
them up and with days to spare I now have full coverage on the new boat.
