First foray in a while to the land-o-cheese for trout.

According to my guidebook, this creek is one of TUs top 100 in the

country.
Yeah, I was excited.

Pulled into the access just outside Cross Plains about 6 this morning.
Hit
the water -- saw a few rises, but nothing specacular. Tied on a 14
Hendrickson, and started casting. Nothing. Hmmmm..... Moved to the next
pool. Nothing..... Next set of riffles. Nothing. Threw 15 or 20 different
flies. Waded about 3 miles of creek. Nothing.

There was a major fish kill in 2001 from some farm issues (cow poop, me
thinks), so the population is down. At least that's what I'm telling

myself,
anyway. Surely couldn't be inexperience or poor casting. Can't be

that.....

Maybe I should put some Cheddar cheese on a hook and see what happens.

Wrong spot?....wrong bug?.....wrong time?......who knows?

About thirteen months ago I caught a dozen or so fish in about half an hour
while standing in one spot roughly seven miles below where you were......in
the presence of one of ROFF's most reliable witnesses. Last month we were
at the same spot, in the company of another friend. Among us we had several
dozen hits, about half of which resulted in hookups. Fish kill or no, there
are plenty of trout left in the stream. Um.......maybe it's your cologne?

Anyway -- there's a little pond (Selmo, or something like that) near the
access that apparently gets stocked like crazy every year. I just wanted

to
get the skunk off of me, so I tossed around the Hendrickson for a bit.
Got
two small bows (10 inchers or so) and a 5 or 6 inch bass. Nothing to call
the newspapers about, but at least I don't need any tomato juice.

Forgot one thing -- one of the pics shows a row of upside down clay pots.
They're in a neat little row. Any idea why they're there? My guess is that
they warn of an upcoming pool.
????

No idea about the pots.

Thanks for the report and the pictures.
