Since I fish sal****er a lot, rinsing is necessary. The caution you've read
is probably about flushing with a heavy, strong, direct stream of water at
the reel. That powerful flush can drive sand/ salt & grit INTO the reel. I
doubt if gentle flushing hurts them, and it certainly gets rid of the salt.

But I heard somewhere that thats not good for them for some
