Hell open water produces fish as well with the toad. The key to fishing the
toads is simple...variation, Fast like a buzz bait, short jerk and pause
works well too. sometimes I just let them sit there on the bottom and twitch
them slowly. Let the fish dictate what they want

Confidence, the guy I watched used them went right over the thick mats of
vegetation to catch his fish. I am not sure about the success they have
had in open water, but I witnessed it over the mats.
