OT- Crappiefest 2005
Well today was Crappiefest 2005 here in the Pocono Mountains. Dave and I
decided to put off bass fishing for some crappie fishing with cane poles. 2
points for any panfish taken on the cane pole, 1 point for any panfish taken
on the ultralight spinning reel.
We started off slow but Dave started hitting crappie on the cane pole, it
leaped him out to a 20-12 lead, but technical difficulties with his cane
pole gave me a chance to hop right back in with the spinning reel, roaring
back to a 22-20 lead, we went back andf forth a bit but eventually my lead
using the cane pole could not be surpassed. Final score
66-59
All in all it was a lot of fun, I can't wait to take the little ones out and
do some cane pole fishing soon. I boated around 40-50 fish in about 3 hours
with the majority being crappie with a bunch of bluegills and perch mixed
in. I even caught two bass, they were a disapointment as they did not count
in the point standings.
And using the cane pole I stick by my theory that pound for pound Bluegills
are the toughest fighting freshwater fish out there
