If I'm not mistaken, he named the place after Gary Snyder's book of

Turtle Island is a living, breathing naturalists classroom. I think his
mother was a professor at ASU for many years, too.
BTW, Turtle Island is the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) name for North
America.

Yes, I had been told that or read the same before. I don't recall if I read
it while researching Gary Snyder, for an English class at ASU, or for what
reason? I know I would have researched the title of his book of poetry
"Turtle Island," as it won a Noble Prize for literature or a Pulitzer one?
'Ol Gary is an interesting sort! One of my favorite poems of his is:
****ing
Watching
A Waterfall
I haven't read much, if any poetry, since finishing up at ASU.
Currently, I'm reading David McCullough's "1776"
