a man i know is going to take me to that big lake called rutland water
which has a lot of trout but i think it's quite expensive to go there
for a day.

Okay. One thing you may have to get over is that you can use a fly rod for
both game and coarse fish. I lived next to the Great Ouse in St. Ives,
Cambs for 4 years. Had a blast with rudd and pike. I even out fished the
guys at the carp ponds (hmm, fly rod isn't cricket I was told. Then again,
I didn't chum). Don't lock yourself into game fish and you can have a blast
close to home and its a great learning experience.
