Well, I finally got lines, leaders, flies for my upcoming adventure. Then
I headed out to the driveway for some practice. Wow! I suck. Absolutely
no control beyong about 40 feet. Good control only to
about 35 feet. Well, if you don't count the little mountain my
leader makes with a fly on top on every fifth or sixth cast. LOL. I'm
afraid to try any of the heavier flies. Oh, well give me a
minute.

Okay, but only a minute. It sounds like your forward stroke may be a
little slow and you're not coming to a hard stop. Also, try aiming a little
higher above the target and see if the leader straightens out all the way. A
little slack in the leader/tippet is usually desirable anyway.

35 feet is usually the max distance I cast unless I'm on larger water. You
can fool a lot of fish at 35 feet. Well, that's what I've heard, anyway.
I've been able to fool a few at 35 feet.
