For those who like the comforts of a lodge or a catered float trip or
guides, go for it. You have my good wishes and encouragement. For those
who will tolerate more risk and discomfort and uncertainty, and who are
(let's face it) cheap, I'm with you guys.

IJ adds----having been lucky enough to fish Alaska three times- once in
fancy lodge with fly out each day, once with
guide and boat out each day, and once for six weeks of driving around in
van for six weeks with my wife and going down most every dirt road we
crossed . I will suggest that if you have the time , that is really a great
way to visit the state. When you see water, pull over and get out your pole.
When you want to rest after a 20 hours of daylight pull off the road , put
up your tent and take a nap. Will never forget catching big salmon on a five
weight.
However sounds like you had a great trip and if you have a paddle position
on next cruise please consider my offer to join.
I guess i am touting myself and being somewhat importunate but sort of
enjoy youalls admonishments
