AUSTIN, Texas — A Dallas man's catch from earlier this year was just
certified as a world record by the International Game Fish Association.

Josh Hill, 22, of Dallas caught the smallmouth buffalo on March 29 on a
self-tied fly and fly rod at the Pedernales River. It was certified at
20.89 pounds, 33 inches and had a girth of 24 inches.

A buffalo fish on a fly? I wonder if he soaked it in worm juice first?

Chuck Vance (for those of you wondering what the hell a buffalo is:

All kinds of strange things happen. I've caught two good size largemouth on
one crankbait. (a 3.5 and a 2.5) I got into a catfish bite one day where I
caught a half dozen channel cats on in-line spinner baits. I've caught carp
on rubber worms. I even lassoed a grass carp once when fishing a senko in
the edges of whitewater. I used to have a deep hole in the Gila river where
I could consistantly catch big (4-7 pounders) channel cats by slow dragging
(stiching) a spoon along the bottom. I once caught a rainbow trout on a
canned boston baked bean on a cane pole. I can't count the number of
sunfish I have caught on a bare hook.

Recently in tournament fishing one fellow reported he caught a big grass
carp on a topwater, and my partner caught a huge bull frog flipping a giant
creature bait into the brush.
