Those small cut tail worms attracted a lot of sunfish too. In fact I think
a drop shot with a tiny grub like you might put on a crappie jig might be
just perfect for sunfish.
we use the tiny trout worms, or the tail of a split tail worm for
sunfish on the wiggle drop shot rig, but bass up to 6 lbs have been
caught on them as well as every other game fish that they have been put
in front of. Mojo is having a mold made now for a 1/8 inch dia. 5 inch
long worm,, pinch it in half for the sun fish, drop shot it, or 5 times
better. "Wiggle" rig it whole for bass, you will be seeing an artical in
North American Fishermen on it soon.
The tiny grubs work, but they do not catch near as many as the tiny
worms, The Berkly "tiny" worms in the jar really catch the most, but
they don't last long.
In our "controlled test" we put the little worms so rigged and fished
against live worms, rigged for bottom fishing, and float fishing,
average results were 5 to 1 over the live worms rigged normally, and
about 2 to 1 over live worms rigged with the wiggle rig. (you get a
better action off the plastic)
We were using Mega Strike on the plastics
Hopefully we will get the masses fishing for pan fish this way someday.
If you don't believe this, I will gladly send you "free" a couple of
rigs for anyone to test, if the fish are there, this "will" nail them,
of course be prepared for that bass that comes by to suck it up as well
P.S. we also tested against the straight drop shot rig, we had a three
to one better catch rate with the wiggle. a 1 inch rod tip bounce,
against steady tension, of the wiggle rig, puts the most productive
action on the little worms.
These test were done over 15 days stretched out over 10 weeks, fishing
was done side by side, bank fishing, the fish were not on the beds at
the times they were done.
When we did test during bedding, everyone caught fish on about every
cast anyway, just the plastic worm guys didn't have to re bait as often
