I have two rods from Tom Hargrove's, but today when I needed to stock up
on odds and ends to entertain the NC trout next week I went to
Feathercraft. They're both fine places, although Tom's is much more
traditional and you probably get better advice.
Have you ever seen Tom's custom rod work? Even though Tom is a friend, I
base my opinion on something that happened when I was visiting St. Louis and
Tom sent me there for something he was out of. But if nothing else Tom has a
bar for his customers.
If you want a really sterile place, you could turn right out of
Feathercraft, drive about a mile and turn right again and soon you'd be at
an Orvis store.
Oh yea, the clothing store with a few rods near the REI, yuck.
