Whiting Spey Fly Necks
Most spey flies are tied very sparse. I still haven't learned how to make
them sparse enough! I usually use schlappen, and if you don't remove one
side of the feather before tying, it ends up too heavy. Also schlappen is
supposed to be crimped with your finger nail so that it does not stick
together.

I picked up a whiting spey fly neck, bronze, and I'm having trouble using
it. All of my spey hackles wind up looking thin and wispy. I haven't had
any trouble with other sorts of heron substitutes, but these hackles
aren't
coming out right.
I haven't figured out how to use more than one hackle without binding down
the first, and if I put too many wraps on, I obscure the body, anyway.
Any advice?
