Thanks Ken,

I never read this part. Hell I didn't even go that far. But interesting
read none the less. Thanks again Ken!!

How to advertise on Usenet
--------------------------

There *are* acceptable ways to advertise in Usenet newsgroups.

1. The on-topic notice

If you have a product or a message that is specifically related to a
particular Usenet newsgroup, and you want to let people know about it,
it's *usually* all right to post *one* notice about it.

Note the word "notice." A notice is a brief mention of the product with
information about how interested persons can find out more. It's not a
sales pitch. It's not an advertisement. It's not a "BUY BUY BUY" sort of
message. It's a notice.

There are legit ways to advertise your products even in a
non-commercial Usenet newsgroup. Basically it consists of
a 4-line .sig with your company affiliation and contact
info (usually a URL and email address). I don't know of
anyone who would complain about such advertisements.

Beyond that, yeah, people will complain. Yours truly
foremost among them. Blatant advertising here is counter-
productive anyway. What outfit would want to deliberately
p*** off potential customers ?

Here's the adverstising on Usenet "bible". Follow it and
you're home free (even SPAMming old geezers ;-).
