He did have a huge hand in the *modern* day to day inventions in bass
fishing.



It is a shame, few bass fishermen like to give credit to anyone who
comes up with a better way to catch bass, they seam to think it hits
them personally, that they didn't come up with it, or figure it out
themselves, then nobody did, or everybody did. The only exceptions are
inventions, and techniques that the inventor, personally pressed to the
market, and would not let fishermen forget they are the ones that
developed it. In the bass fishing industry many companies try to take
innovations from others and make them their own. Everyone wants credit,
and no one wants to point to a single fisherman, and give him the credit.

Years from now, some pro, some where, will claim they, made my rigs and
techniques actually work, thus they are the true "inventors".

I know that Roland did ended come up with many techniques of present day
bass fishing, but so did Dance, Mann, Lindon, Scott, and Parker. Just
to name a few of the old gang, that made bass fishing what it is today.

I spend 8 to 10 hours a day, every day, trying to improve the way people
catch fish, I test and try many things that are no better, and sometimes
worst than what's already out there, occasionally I hit a true
improvement. Most fishermen spend their time improving on the
techniques they already are using, and don't have the time, or desire to
waste days on the water, possibly not catching fish, on new ideas, they
want to spend their time using gear and techniques that have worked for
them in the past, or know for a fact, have worked for other fishermen,
not really wanting to try something new.


It takes years for a new lure or technique, or terminal tackle to
finally get accepted by the fishermen.

Gary's Sinko is a prime example, it was on the market 7 years with
almost no sales, before fishermen realized just how well it worked,
because of these long times for acceptance, in most cases the credit
gets lost, not is Gary's case, but Gary already had a reputation for
producing winning lures, but the knock off's have really hurt his bottom
line.
