Default Opinions re '05 Mercury Classic 3 cyl/2-stroke

I have located the above motor, 97% new, 6 mos. factory warranty
remaining. I can get the motor, mounted, for $2800 plus my '97
Mercury Force 50/2 cyl. ( know that '05 is the last year Mercury
will manufacture the Classic mid-range 2-strokes.)

Please give me opinions & advice: is this a good motor? Any common
mechanical problems with it? Good $$ deal?

It doesn't sound bad. You'd be getting a new motor warranty, you don't have
to do any work to mount it and you'll be getting a motor that is more
current technology. Force motors were a decent enough motor, but finding
someone to work on them is getting to be a problem. I know that Force
outboards are basically a Merc powerhead, Merc electricals on a Chrysler
lower unit, people's eyes glaze over when they hear the name "Force."

Newer, warranty and repairable anywhere in the U.S.? As long as you're
happy with the deal, it sounds ok. The only question that I have is why is
the motor available in the first place? If it's a matter of the previous
owner had his boat underpowered, or something along those lines, I'd have to
say "Go for it."
