Not necessarily Dan me boy. One of the largest smallmouth that I've ever
caught was tap-tap-tapping like a bluegill. I, out of irritation whipped
the rod to pull it away from the offending pest, only to be rewarded with
the rod stopping dead mid-sweep and a heavy pull back.
That's why I tell clients to set the hook anytime something feels different,
because you never know.....
