UPYERS?

...and yerstoo.

upyers is in september, isn't it? looking forward to it. when are the
dates? i'm not having much success in figuring out a good place to stay or
camp. have you guys decided on the general area and specific dates yet?
hell, it's almost a new year! times a wastin....

Aside from Wayne Knight's request to overlap with grouse season (2005 season
opened on 9-15) no preferences were stated, so it's Saturday, the 16th
through Saturday, the 23rd. These dates are now graven in
stone......erasures are a bitch.

Marquette is the biggest city in the U.P.......the best bet for regularly
scheduled air passenger service. It also happens to be as close to the
center (east to west) as one can get and still hope to find amenities like
food and electricity. There are lots of possibilities for accommodations
ranging from camping in near wilderness to cabins and hotels. Trout streams
within reasonable driving distance are too numerous to list, so Marquette it
is.

Northwest Airlines is currently listing a flight from Raleigh with one short
stop in Detroit for $323 (including all taxes and other mumbo-jumbo). For
an extra three bucks you can get a flight with TWO! stops. DeLorme says
Raleigh to Marquette is 1164.52 miles and takes 21 hours and 57 minutes to
drive......but they tend to be conservative. Assuming the original list of
committed attendees remains firm, it's highly likely that one could make
arrangements to fly to some more civilized place and hitch a ride.

I'll post an email to the usual suspects sometime later this week.....see
who's still interested.....and then get busy choosing and booking a clave
central based on the results.
