Has anyone had any experience of float rods from DAM or Maver? I want to
buy a float rod, but have a limited budget. these 2 manufacturers seem to
look ok, but i dont know of a tackle shop near me that stocks them. Just
wanted some ideas as to whwether they are good kit for the money (£30ish
online), or whether Shimano would be a better bet?
Both DAM and Maver are OK, Maver for preference over DAM (they had a few
quality issues a while back when I believe they were being taken over or
something of the sort....).
Shimano Hyperloop pretty good kit, wouldn't go much wrong there if you can
find one for the price. Only criticism I have is that the Hyperloop
overwrap system seems to give a slightly heavier rod blank than average - I
assume because of more material incorporated in the rod - tho very stiff.
However as the possesser of both Shimano and Fox rods I would very strongly
point you in the direction of Fox rods if you can afford them. They don't
just make carp kit (tho that is damned good stuff) but also a range of
superb float and match rods. However that may be bumping up the price too
far I suspect.
Thinking laterally and going the other way if you are new to / just trying
out float fishing and don't want to spend a fortune finding out if it is for
you then the best source I have found for good quality budget tackle is

Just depends where you are at.....
