Alaska Trips by Highway

One thing I would also check would be the Wrangell Mountain Area. If
memory serves they were expanding the road system in the Wrangell Mountain
National Park so may be some new opportunities there. Any area where they
have put in new roads I would think would offer more accessible fishing.
McIntosh agrees---Spent 4th of July in Wrangell Park during our
driving/fishing trip to Alaska. Most folks flew in but we drove 63 miles
down old railroad bed from Chitna to McCarthy. The copper company took the
rails with them when they pulled out but left the ties! Then camped on rock
bed, pulled ourselves over Copper River on overhead tram , hiked two miles
to town and joined a bunch of adventurers enjoying a
weekend drunk out. Think the Wrangell National Park is our largest and
should be included on anyone's driving expedition of Alaska.
