Okay, despite the best planned lays of mice and men (was that
right?), I'm not going to get my ties flied for this years GFS. I
had high hopes of doing up a dozen while in New Zealand, but the
combination of long days and longer necked bottles meant I never got
to tie up any. Now that I'm back in Hongo Congo, work starts
tomorrow and I don't see any opportunity to get them tied in the
next week. I'm not entirely sure I even see an opportunity to get
my day job done in the next week.
I know, I know. Twenty noodles with a wet lash, but I'd rather have
a #22 Mustad driven up my little toenail than apologize on roff.

Please accept them, tyers. :-(

Real men don't make excuses. I'm at a convention in Orlando and
brought my tying stuff with me so Frank and all the people counting
of getting 23 flies won't think less of me for bailing out. Just got
back from the annual Sales dinner (and many glasses of fine Italian
wine and an unbelievable wonderful salmon dinner) and tied a few
flies because. . . I am the alpha-male.
Frank - rest assured the flies will be there on time because REAL MEN
don't wimp out on obligations.

Who loves ya, Myron. ;-)

I'm forced to agree with Timmy.

I'll be damned. Shall I halt the spinning of the globe?

I see several posts to ROFF over the
past couple of days - time that could have been used for tying.

REAL men can post to roff and tie flies with the other hand.

****
damn, just open up your fly box and pick out a handful of decent
looking flies. I promise that nobody (except me) will go over them
with a magnifying glass.

Zackly. Wayno has this type of tying down to an art.

Well, I suppose I should thank you guys for your honesty and all that. One
thing I like best about roff, and paradoxically sometimes hate the most, is
that people tend to be more truthful about their feelings here more than
people in most real-life situations. I am honored that you would offer me
your truthful opinion, and not just fob off something if you really felt
otherwise about it.

That being said, I will say that there is a bit more to it than just not
having the time, since anyone (not just a Real Man) can usually create time.
None of the 'more to it' stuff is something I want to hang out here for
ridicule or perusal, as that honesty thing can slice the wrong way at times,
and its just too easy to show a bit too much leg on Usenet and regret it
later. But it has to do with vague domestic stresses, something I'm sure a
few real men here could probably relate to, even without the pathetic
emasculating details. Then again, maybe thats a bit too much leg already...

ALSO, since I already said I was ducking out (simultaneously incurring the
wrath of those who disdain such things, as well as crystallizing a very
dangerous precedent for fly swaps), I don't want to now duck back in and
call even more attention to it. What gets done is, in general, hard to truly
undo. At this point, I think its best to stick with my decision to not stick
with my decision. If I changed my mind about changing my mind, it might
leave more folks confused, not knowing how many flies to really tie, and
exacorbate the whole thing.

So, thanks for the push, but 'no'....I think it best to hold off this time.
I promise to make it up later, when the situation is right.

And to hell with precendent....I offer my apologies to the present and
future GFS tyers.
