Default Florida Keys Backcountry Info

Hi Everyone, just joined this group.

A buddy of mine and I travel down to Key West about once a year to do
some fishing. We rent a boat down there and have a pretty good time.

This year, we want to stop further up the Keys for a couple of days and
hire a backcountry guide to see what that is like. We've fishing the
shallows of South Texas for years, but neither of us is brave or stupid
enough to try and navigate the Keys Backcountry in a rental boat.

Any suggestions? We're looking for a guide, but to start with, we're
not sure what area to stay in. Marathon, Islamorada, Largo? Any
suggestions would be much appreciated. It's hard to get through all
the tourist websites to get any real information off the net. Thanks.

I just got back from Islamorada on Tuesday, Sailfish were biting and
the Tarpon are there in force. I would reccomend the flats guy's at
Holiday Isle in Islamorada, I've never used them myself, but their's
probably a dozen of them there to choose from and I've heard good
things about them. You could try the resort for information. And if the
weather's bad while your there you have plenty of other things to keep
you busy. If you decide to go after sails while your there head down to
Bud and Mary's and get on the "Catch 22", those guy's are unbeleavable.
We get two sails in a day and think we did well, they come in having
released fifteen and think they had an average day.
