Default White bass frenzy

The other night, my three year old and I were out fishing when the top of
the water went nuts with fish activity for about 15 minutes. Last night, I
decided to go back and see if I could catch one of those fish. The same
thing happened about 45 minutes before sunset for 15 minutes. This was out
in 100 feet of water not too far from the dam. Turns out they were white
bass chasing shad. Within 15 minutes, I had landed quite a few. I lost
quite a few too due to poor hook setting technique. By casting into the
different areas where they were jumping like crazy, I could get a hit every
cast. It has been a long time since I have caught white bass. For a 10"
fish, they sure put up a great fight, especially when compared to crappie.
Once the frenzy was over, I only had a couple of hits over the next hour and
landed only one more fish.

What was wild was having the shad spill out all of the boat. As I was
pulling the fish into the boat, I kept seeing all of this flashing out of
the corner of my eye. I was to busy trying to unhook the fish and get to
the next one. When I finally looked down, I had quite of few shad laying
all over the boat. The shad were 1/2" to 1" in size and overall, very
small. At least, I think they were shad. They were mostly silvery white
with blue coloration on top.

P.S. I was using an 1/8 lead head jig with a chartreuse grub tipped with a
small piece of nightcrawler.
