Default Selecting the right hook size. (Making home made rigs)

Here I sit with the Cabella's catalog in my hands and I'm trying to
figure out what parts/pieces I need to make up some rigs. The "trouble"
I'm running into is if I see a hook in person I can tell you "OK...
that's the right size." It never occurred to me to pay attention to the
size number.

I'm trying to make up some blackfish rigs (AKA tautogs) for a future
fishing trip. What size hook is the right size?

#6 Octopus hooks rings a bell with me, but I'd hate to order the darn
things mail order and find out they are the wrong size.
