Use feathers but no more than three, pick a set with a good heavy main
line50 or 60lb,use a plain 5oz weight & launch them out,allow them to

hit
the bottom before you start to sink & retrieve. If you dont get a bite
after a few casts pick a different direction & try again. When there are
mackerel about it will be packed & every one will be after them so be
prepared for combat fishing especially in the school holidays.
Cliff.

Sea Anglers have "BIGGER" Tackle.

Yes they do by the looks of your tackle ;-)

If the fish are close enough use a spinner on a lite rod I think you will
have far more fun. TBH however where I fish I normally need a lite beech
caster with feathers and usually 2-3 oz of led is enough to get the
distance. As Cliff said I would keep with a 50-60lb shock leader.

Personally
I give piers a wide berth too many folks. If you are mobile you can cover
far more ground. Good luck!!
