Yes, I do have some interesting neighbors. I know all the characters in
the story, including the author, but I was out of town during the event.
The fencing, where the herd is by the river, looked rather peculiar to
a midwesterner. Is there some purpose to it? It can't be that
elaborate just for looks.
That style of worm fencing is common here -- even typical. We have LOTS
of lodgepole pine, so it's economical. The fact that it's pretty is a
side benefit.
The rancher (Jay Neider) probably wouldn't have bothered with a fence if
there weren't a requirement to keep his damn cows out of the Salmon River.
