The question of where attendees at the second annual Upper Peninsula Yearly
Exploratory and Reconnaissance Soiree will be staying came up in another
thread this morning.
No firm decision has yet been made. The most likely location is some
friends' cabin adjacent to the middle branch of the Ontonagon river near
Bruce Crossing, but this is negotiable depending on who and how many will be
attending, how the dates of attendance overlap, where everybody wants to
fish, preferred accommodations, etc.
I'd appreciate it if everyone planning to attend would chime in here so we
can sort it all out. So far, it looks like Bill Claspy, John Baker, Jeff
Miller, Wayne Knight, George Cleveland and I are
committed.......um.....well, let it stand.
Fisher's shack can accommodate 8 or so without much trouble, and there is
plenty of room for tents in the field on the property. There is no
electricity or running water. There are gas lights and a genuine wood fired
sauna......the benefits of which are manifest to all who have ever used one
and a treat in store for those who have yet to experience it.
When I spoke with John recently, he indicated that he would probably be
hauling his popup camper. I'm pretty certain that he won't object to its
use as a satellite camp for a small party to spend a night or two away from
whatever becomes clave central, thus extending our range.
Michigan's upper peninsula is a relatively undeveloped area. All the
necessities of life are readily available but those accustomed to easy
access to exotic viands, beverages and other luxury items will be well
advised to bring their own. To put it another way, the equivalent of spuds
and PBR in any line of goods won't be hard to find but if sushi and Stoli is
more your style you'd better pack it in.
