Default float fishing with live mackerel

What Derek says may be true but down here in Poole, over the Needles bridge
many use the float method with success and use a size 6/0 to 8/0 size hook
on a 30ft trace, live joeys are best however. You need a big cigar type
float.

Joeys will stay on a big hook OK but 'standard' mackerel, which bass deal
with perfectly well, do the Houdini with the larger hooks. 1/0 is standard
with late season bassers in the Portland Race.

Cheerio,
