It was good to see you and your family Mike... sorry I was so late in
getting there, but I got there. The big fish looked good on the camera
but send me a picture and I'll put it on the site. Here is some good
news for Penn's. I hope they keep removing the dam's all the way to the
cave and if that happens Penns will be a cold water fishery all the way
to Glen Iron and past that. Ps: I found Charles Wetzels old cabin this
past weekend. He wrote Practical Flyfishing in the mid 50's and it was
all about Penn's Creek.
Heres the good news....
Millmont Dam on Penns Creek to be Removed This Week
PA Department of Environmental Protection Newsletter, 06/07/2006
The Millmont Dam in Union County is being dismantled. Crews began
demolishing the dam on June 5 and expect to complete work by June 10.
Lycoming Supply Inc. of Williamsport is removing the dam at a cost of
$25,984. The Millmont Dam is a low-head, or run-of-the-river, dam.
Its removal will open over nine miles of Penns Creek to fish passage,
will restore of one mile of riparian habitat, and reduce the occurrence
and severity of flooding on upstream properties. DEP and thestate Fish
and Boat Commission share regulatory authority over approximately 250
low-head dam, built to provide power to mills or to create impoundments
for navigation. In addition to affecting aquatic habitat, low-head
dams have proven to be a danger to boaters and swimmers. A loose
coalition of state and federal agencies, and environmental and sporting
groups are working to remove dams that are unsafe or no longer needed.
The Millmont Dam will be the 11th low-head dam breached in PA during
2006.
