I am a young woman (20) who is very keen in learning how to fly fish.
I will soon be moving up to Dunkeld, Perthshire and want to take
advantage of the Tay's reputation for great fishing. As I've been
looking around it seems there are few women, much less quite young
women, who are interested in the sport. What are the reactions I'm
likely to get from anglers as I look for advice? Is it quite a
welcoming, friendly affair? What would you think of a youngster
fishing on the same beat as you? Just curious to hear some opinions.
I'm an American and found the male fishers (fly and spin) very kindly.
Of course I'm old, but I'm not at all sure that makes much difference.
You may feel as if you're being talked down to a bit at first, but as
a beginner, that happens regardless of age or gender.

Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless. Really.
