The difference is that tube flies were first invented to
allow people to use (under fly-only rules) a small
treble to hook salmon. The tube allows tying a larger
fly than would be possible on the shank of the treble
hook. SP's may be the first designed primarily to be
recoverable after hooking a snag, rather than primarily
to catch fish.
