As for the hat advice .... I learned years ago that a broad brimmed hat,
good sunglasses (preferably with side shields ) and long sleeves were
essential if one is going to spend as much time outside, and especially near
water, as a retriever trainer/duck hunter/fly fisher does.

Your advice should not be taken lightly, over time too much sun is very
nasty for the skin and eyes.
