How can you call it a quiet, contemplative sport, when the main purpose is
to stick a piece of barbed steel in some poor dumb animal and pull it to you
against it's will?

"Barbed?" BARBED?! And besides, your description sounds more like
ROFF...I'm pretty sure that for most, the main purpose of fishing
(rather than catching) is to provide an excuse for buying lots of
expensive stuff and going and getting drunk in the woods...
