I've always heard that when they get in a corner it causes them to get
"rednose" which results in premature death.

It's not so much that they have to swim in a circle, as they WILL swim
into a corner and not know enough to turn to get out of the corner. A
round tank doesn't have any corners to confuse their feeble little minds.
