Well the charter to UK.Rec.Sailing allows posting of private ads, but
disallows trade ads. There is no mention of e-bay and I don't see how
use of e-bay automatically makes it 'trade'.

The only bit of general etiquette you may have offended is that you
shouldn't post ads to groups you don't use.
