I always had to hold my choke in until the motor caught up and ran
smoothly. Not sure what kind of choke you have - mine I pushed the key
in to activate the choke - it was closed or open, no slowly pushing it
in.


Sounds like he may have been reffering to the fast idle control instead of
the choke, or don't Johnsons have a fast idle lever?
