From answers.com

Elevation of Nebraska .--The greater part of Nebraska is a plateau. It
is estimated that the eastern half of the State along the line of the
Union Pacific Railroad has an average elevation of 1,700 feet; the
western half, of 3,525 feet

1825 foot elevation change over the 430 mile width? No thanks my friend,
enjoy your snow drifts this weekend

The average of the west may be 1825 ft, but my mom grew up near Morrow and
the back 40 was 6280' high. Was 1.5 miles to the WY border. So Nebraska is
not a complete flat slope.
